Dr. Shruthi Neela, Consultant Breast Surgical Oncologist at Sindhu Hospitals, HITEC City, Hyderabad

"Every patient deserves a surgeon who fights as hard for their quality of life as for their survival."

Training and qualifications

Dr. Shruthi Neela completed her MBBS and MS in General Surgery before going on to pursue a Fellowship in Breast Oncoplastic Surgery at Tata Medical Centre. This fellowship is a dedicated, post-MS training programme focused specifically on breast cancer surgery and reconstruction, giving her skills that most general surgeons do not have.

She is one of only three to four surgeons in Hyderabad who practise exclusively as a breast surgical oncologist. That focus matters. Patients get a surgeon whose entire clinical attention is on breast cancer care, not divided across multiple specialties.

What she treats

Dr. Shruthi's practice covers the full range of breast surgical conditions, from early stage breast cancer to complex reconstructions for BRCA-positive patients. She also sees patients with benign conditions like fibroadenoma, breast cysts, mastalgia, and nipple discharge.

  • Breast cancer, all stages, all types
  • BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutation carriers
  • Patients seeking second opinions on a diagnosis or surgery recommendation
  • Post-mastectomy breast reconstruction (implant and flap-based)
  • Benign breast lumps, cysts, and fibroadenomas
  • Mastalgia (breast pain) and nipple discharge

Her unique skills

Dr. Shruthi performs chest wall perforator flap reconstruction, a technique that uses the patient's own tissue from nearby chest wall perforators to rebuild the breast after mastectomy. This is a natural-tissue option that avoids the donor site morbidity of the back (latissimus dorsi) flap. Very few surgeons in Hyderabad offer this technique.

She also specialises in implant-based reconstruction for BRCA-positive patients who choose prophylactic mastectomy. This requires careful planning between the cancer surgery and reconstruction, and Dr. Shruthi manages both aspects.

Her approach to care

Dr. Shruthi works on the principle that patients make better decisions when they fully understand their options. She takes time in consultations to explain what a surgery involves, what recovery looks like, and what to expect in the months after. She does not rush patients toward any particular choice.

Breast-conserving surgery is always explored first when it is clinically appropriate. Where conservation is not possible, she discusses every reconstruction option available so the patient walks into surgery knowing what their outcome can be.

Dr. Shruthi consults in English, Telugu, Hindi, Bengali, and Marathi. Patients who are more comfortable in their mother tongue never have to search for words to describe what they are feeling.
